VISA marked World No Tobacco Day 2017 by organising an inter-college competition in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Five hundred students from colleges of Upper PlaineWilhems participated in the competition. The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Municipality of Quatre Bornes on 31 May. Messages were conveyed through a mini exhibition and musical programme. The event was attended by the representative of the WHO in Mauritius. Click here to read more on the activity

Brief
Objectives :
- Promote literary activities and develop intellectual skills of youth
- Sensitise youth on the dangers of tobacco use
- Promote healthy exchanges among students of the region
Activities organised :
- Concours D’Orthographe( categories Form 2/3 and Form 4/5)
- Elocution contest English
- Elocution contest French
- Quiz Competition
- Mini Exhibition on tobacco prevention
- Entertainment Programm( Slam, Poem, Music, Song and Dance)

Collaborator : VISA association, Curepipe ( President Mr D.Mohee)
The activities will culminate with the celebration of World No Tobacco Day on the 31st May 2017 ( the theme this year is : tobacco – a threat to development.).There is an urgent need to protect present and future generations from the devastating health, social, economic and environmental consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke. This project will contribute to sensitising the youth against this problem. The activities have been linked to tobacco prevention through texts for Orthography competition, Quiz questions and topics for Elocution contests. Important messages will be conveyed to the youth through a mini exhibition and musical programme.
